Dear Parents and Students:

Next week is Drug Awareness Week. The symbol for the week, the red ribbon, symbolizes a commitment to a drug-free, healthy lifestyle. The Red Ribbon Campaign was organized in response to the murder of Federal Agent, Enrique Camarena by drug traffickers in February, 1985. Since then, it has continued as a nationwide program to increase public awareness of drug abuse and to unite community groups across the country in activities which promote a drug-free lifestyle.

All of the classes will attend an assembly on Wednesday, October 24th with the Pro-Action Team, a high energy trampoline group that promotes healthy choices and healthy living. Families are invited to attend an evening performance on Wednesday evening, Oct. 24th @ 7:00 PM at Hillendale Elementary.

The students will be receiving paper footprints to decorate. Be creative ~ these feet will be on display throughout the school to show how Hillendale students take a stand against drugs. Each class will present a drug free poster for our poster contest. The winning class will receive a special treat.

Agenda for the Week

Monday ~ "Band Against Drugs Day" & "Red Ribbon Day" Wear a red bandanna to school today. Red ribbons will be distributed to all students and staff; students should wear their ribbons all week.
