During the month of April many of the fifth grade classes were visited by several Unionville High School students who were members of a group called TATU. Teens Against Tobacco Use is a program where high school students volunteer their time and get to be a teacher by helping kids younger than them learn about the dangers of tobacco use.

The program was developed by the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association and the American Heart Association. The students receive informational training regarding tobacco issues and develop their own presentations. They work in groups of 2, 3 or 4. The teenagers gain experience as peer educators. The fifth grade students were very receptive to the hands on learning experience and enjoyed their role models coming to talk to them. The presentations utilized many examples and demonstrations of how using tobacco can interfere with having a healthy productive life. Hillendale students and staff members would like to sincerely thank Sarah Dillow, Rosie Moran, Tori Marini, Kyle Evans, and Amanda Connor for their excellent presentations.

Also, a big thank you to Mrs. Brenda Korban, Ms. Linda Brodeur-Cangi and Mrs. Teresa Dolan for organizing this worthwhile event.
