Art in Action is a PTO sponsored program designed to bring appreciation of art application into the Unionville-Chadds Ford schools. The program is divided into two areas of art appreciation: 1) Introduction of famous works of art and artistic elements to students by parent volunteers; and 2) completion of a school-wide art project, to be displayed in the school. The focus of this year's program is"Portraits in Art." All the children of Hillendale took part in the first part of the program in October. A fabulous group of parent volunteers facilitated interactive discussions and hands-on projects relating to famous portraits and the use of the Elements of Art by the artists who painted them. The fourth and fifth grade students created beautiful "sample squares" using their knowledge of the Elements. A mosaic of their work is on display in showcases outside the cafeteria and in the hallway adjacent to the office and the nurse's office. Be sure to check it out! We are looking forward to the school-wide project which will begin in the second half of the school year. Thanks to all of the people who continue to keep this program interesting, and thanks especially to all the little artists of Hillendale, who let us all know exactly why Art is so special!
Sincerely,
