October 20 - 25 was Red Ribbon Week at Hillendale. The symbol for the week, the red ribbon, symbolizes a commitment to a drug-free, healthy lifestyle. The Red Ribbon Campaign was organized in response to the murder of Federal Agent, Enrique Camarena by drug traffickers in February, 1985. Since then, it has continued as a nationwide program to increase public awareness of drug abuse and to unite community groups across the country in activities which promote a drug-free lifestyle.

All of the classes attended an assembly on Tuesday, October 21st with Jedlie the clown who teaches that we are "The Boss of Our Body."

In the show "Boss of My Body" Jedlie teaches students that they have the power to say yes to the things that can help them grow... reading, exercise and nutritious foods. Just as importantly he teaches that they can say no to the things that can hurt them, drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and being a bully.

Many other activities occured throughout the week to promote the importance of leading a a drug-free, healthy lifestyle. A big thank you to Mrs. McCormick and everyone else who helps to make Red Ribbon Week a special Hillendale event. A special thanks to Scott S. for taking some terrific photos!
