The students at
Hillendale enjoyed celebrating Read Across America Day on
Dr. Seuss's birthday on Mar. 2, 1999. The student
government sponsored "Stop, Drop, & Read!" At random
times during the day, everyone heard an announcement to
do just that -- stop everything and read a book for
awhile! Everyone made sure to have a book with them at
all times, even in the science lab and at specials. Many
pages were enjoyed!
Mr. Marinelli challenged
the students to a reading contest, too. He said that if
students read enough Dr. Seuss books that day to make a
stack to reach the ceiling in the lobby he would read
every class a book. We MET the challenge! One stack of
books reached the ceiling and another stack was started
as well. Reading sure is fun at Hillendale!
