Neither snow nor ice nor change of schedule could keep the fourth grade from a great Ben Franklin Day celebration! The morning of Friday, Jan. 28, 2000 was packed full of exciting activity for all of our fourth graders, including a visit from Ben Franklin himself!!

Mr. Franklin, portrayed by Mr. Ralph Archbold of Philadelphia, entertained the students with stories from his life. The children learned about his boyhood in Boston when he wanted to live the adventurous life of a sailor as well as stories from his days in Philadelphia.

The teachers presented special lessons during the morning which centered on one of Ben's many interests. These included Printing (Ben was a printer by trade.), Electricity (We all know about his interest in kite flying.), Inventions (Ben invented many things.), and the Post Office (Ben improved the colonial mail system.) Each class participated in two of these activities.

Since Mr. Franklin's birthday is in January, the students serenaded him with a grand "Happy Birthday to You" while our governor presented him with a birthday cupcake and balloons. How old would Ben be now anyway???

To end the special day, all the students met in the LGI to view the movie Ben & Me on the big screen. This humorous story about Ben is based on the book by Robert Lawson.

During fourth grade our students read biographies of Ben Franklin and learn about his role in the history of Pennsylvania. This special day brings that learning to life!
