KILLER WHALE
by Eric, Matt, and Jason

The killer whale feeds on fish, other dolphins, eels, seals, penguins, and sometimes other whales. Sometimes the killer whale will distract a mother whale and go after her baby. Its favorite food seems to be the tongue and lips of the baby baleen whale. Sometimes when a group of salmon or other fish are stuck in fishermen's nets, the Orca whales will slip into the nets, eat the fish, and get out before the fishermen even notice!
An adult killer whale can weigh up to 9 tons and get up to 30 feet. They live in pods of 20 or more and can swim up to 30 miles an hour.
Its scientific name is Orcinus orca and its 50 long, curved teeth are about 6 inches long. Scientists believe that 50 million years ago, ancestors of the orca walked upon land on all fours.
And remember, it won't kill you to vote for the killer whale!
